Vettre is the largest sub-area in Asker with around 5500 inhabitants. About 10 percent of Asker's population is living here.

The name of the area comes from the Vettre farms located by the fjord behind Slemmestad Road (Slemmestadveien). The farms Åby, Blakstad, Vettre and Hvile are still in production, mostly by cultivating grain and strawberries. In Hvile farm they also have riding horses.

In the old barn built in the Southern Wettre farm (Søndre Wettre gård) there is a combined café and gift/interior store called Himmel-blaa, down in the area twoards Blakstad Hospital. There is also a conference hotel, Thon Hotel Vettre, located in Hvilemyra, just below Slemmestad Road. At the intersection here is also a food store, a medical office and animal clinic. In Leangbukta there is a boat center, orphanage and an electrical shop.

Previously the area of Vettre / Konglungen was one of the three coastal centers in Asker. Fishing was an important industry and stream ships came to Vettre docks in the years before 1952. Vettre was also  a popular holiday resort in the summer, especially in connection with an organized bazaar and dance that drew many visitors. There are still many people coming to the swimming spots in Vettre and Konglungen in the summer.
